Comment:

 I'm not sure what change specifically would have broken it, but this
 sounds like a plugin issue, as shared media is not a feature included in
 core out of the box and featured images otherwise work properly. I'd go
 back to the plugin developer to let him know it isn't working. If he
 determines that there is something broken in core that is preventing this
 from working, then we can revisit.

 Now, this does pose the question as to whether network-shared media should
 be something supported directly in core, but we can have that discussion
 during one of the weekly multisite chats in Slack.
