 Concerning the issues of what happens after installation and activation
 and redirection, one issue that will confuse users is that if there is no
 redirection, then you don't get to see anything added by the plugin to
 your dashboard until you reload the dashboard.

 e.g. Plugin Foo adds a new menu in "Tools -> Frobnosticator". But, it's
 not there until the page reloads. Result: unless the user realises this,
 he may be confused; click around a bit, and then see it is there after
 all. Files issue in support forum, "Hi, after installing + activating your
 plugin, the Tools -> Frobnosticator menu entry was not there... I clicked
 around a bit, then it was. Not sure what caused that. You'll want to get
 that fixed in your plugin!".
