When you're trying to customise the view of the theme it uses AJAX
function which will simply not load any preview if the user has created
for example an index.html holding page or any other which is a default
index page (not index.php). It looks like AJAX functions for customisation
are referring to www.domain_name.tld without /index.php what is causing
that issue. Not sure if it's a proper bug or not but I have just come
across that and spent significant amount of time trying to work that out
as AJAX was not dropping any errors or reporting any errors to the web
server either and all logs were full of 200 statuses what was even more
confusing.
