 Hi @tonysandwich,

 @swissspidy is correct. We've chosen not to include the polyfill for this
 feature in by default based on the feedback we received during the process
 of bringing responsive images into WordPress. I would recommend loading
 Picturefill directly through your theme if you want to provide backwards
 compatibility to older browsers. If you choose not to use a polyfill,
 browsers will load your images exactly like they would have before this
 feature was introduced.
