Comment:

 First of all, usernames are considered public information, not private.
 Leveraging the username for the permalinks makes sense as it never
 changes. A change to the user profile data shouldn't invalidate a
 previously correct url. See also #5864.

 Second, styling author pages is something the theme needs to do.

 Third, supporting multiple authors has been asked for multiple times (see
 #3419 for example) and is not considered to be something worth adding to
 core. Instead, use a plugin for this.
