 To avoid all kinds of extra tickets in Trac, I figured give this a try
 first.

 Wouldn't it be something to consider to offer the "title" tag optional?

 For example, by default not visible (to support your vision to get rid of
 the title tag), but if folks insist to keep using it, they can enable it
 again? Maybe even hidden in /wp-admin/options.php?

 I for one still actively use the title tag and this change makes editing
 posts a lot more cumbersome (manual adding the tag).
