 /Editing_wp-config.php#Do_not_upgrade_global_tables. Not sure it's the
 best temporary solution though.

 @OriginalEXE, I'm sure not only I would be extremely grateful. There is a
 very popular plugin that saves values to the options table for fields
 added to terms as well as other admin pages. Due to the way that plugin
 generates field names "option_name" the length of them can grow quite long
 at times.
