 In talking to obenland, what we'd like to try first is to patch the
 problem areas by adding the appropriate labels and getting the fixed
 widgets into core without alternate versions. Yes, this could result in
 some themes having minor change in appearance, but we feel that the better
 and simpler route is to simply fix the problem.

 That could end up with pushback that kills it, but we'd like to try.
