Comment:

 Yep! This is something the [http://make.wordpress.org/core/tag/options-
 meta/ metadata working group] have been considering, and I've mentioned
 this as well in some talks on metadata I gave over the last few months.
 This is a duplicate of the efforts arising out of #18179.
