 It's worth keeping in mind, that some users are forced to enter FTP
 details during updates.

 This is one of those things that progressive enhancement feels warranted,
 where if you're in that situation, you simply miss out on the
 functionality. However, server configuration is a case where users don't
 have much of a choice or don't understand, so I guess we could simply
 prompt for their FTP details client-side and send it with the XHR
 request..

 This also skips the plugin deactivate/reactivate dance we currently do (in
 some situations at least) - If a plugin causes a fatal post-update or only
 partially completes, it could cause some white screens.
