 No objection to the current patch but it still offends (!) that we're
 calling `wp_die()` from within a library function (see comment:37). Any
 interest in a further patch to localise these calls and make the functions
 more re-usable?  I have some time this week.  Really, though it's about
 time we re-did the whole comments subsystem...
