 [attachment:30335.2.patch] reinstates the term splitting on
 `wp_update_term()`, with the following improvements:

 * As requested, a 'split_shared_term' action is fired at the end of
 `_split_shared_term()`.
 * Added previously missing support for the reassigning of child terms,
 plus unit tests.
