 Glad you figured it out. Yes, the way external plugins are loaded in
 TinyMCE 4.0 is different, but the WordPress filter still works in exactly
 the same way.

 There's a (copy/paste?) typo in the gist, line 30 in plugin.js is not
 needed. Many of the
 [https://github.com/tinymce/tinymce/tree/master/js/tinymce/plugins
 TinyMCE's default plugins] add button and menu item. That serves as a good
 example.
