Hi Helen,
De-install is in the Oxford dictionary. But note in Meriam Webster, I
note. However, it's our (the Brits) language, so Oxford wins.... Just
kidding. ;-)
As a minimal suggestion, how about, "You are trying to install a plugin
that is already installed. This cannot be done."
That gets to the point, and allows the user to know why the operation did
not work, and avoids any ambiguous advice on how to resolve it.
