Comment:

 Playlists are meant to support attachments, or JSON data containing media
 files support by MediaElement. MEjs only coincidentally supports YouTube
 and Vimeo.

 If you create your own JSON, and limit your external service URLs to
 YouTube and Vimeo, this already works.
