 Something to consider for a later version.  However, I assumed the longer
 form of alternation would be massively slower for the inner loop,
 redundant, and it would significantly alter the behavior of wptexturize.
 Those sorts of things tend to get bogged down with review and lack of
 traction.  Besides, I'm not sure there is a need to make that change just
 for the sake of our curly quotes.
