Comment:

 Created a patch which will do the following:
 * Adds a "Default" label in the same style as Sticky/Draft shows in the
 post rows.
 * Adds an action titled "Set as Default" if the user has permission to
 manage options which sets the default category.
 * Removes the Default Category setting from Settings -> Writing.
