 16953.9.diff also worked great in an environment I was testing. It's got a
 WordPress Skeleton-esque setup with core and wp-content in the same
 directory; inside wp-content: mu-plugins, plugins, and themes are all
 symlinked. Installing the patch fixed all the 404's, and I've yet to run
 into any issues.
