 I agree, ''wordpress'' as a tag is useless, same as plugins which include
 !WordPress in plugin name *sigh*.
 Otherwise I don't think the tag is completely useless. The tags are based
 on the plugins count, you can see the count on mouse over.

 To see user's popular plugins there is the ''Popular'' tab.
