 If you upload while on a post edit screen, it should attach to that post,
 even if you don't insert it - not sure if there's any particular reason in
 your workflow to go to the media library separately.

 A drop down has serious scaling issues (both interaction- and performance-
 wise) once you get past maybe a couple hundred posts, although I'd like to
 work on that in #9864. That said, I think a plugin that does attach *and*
 unattach of media in more places would be cool to see and evaluate
 adoption from there.
