Comment (by adegans):

 True, but at the same time you shouldn't let them hinder the progress of
 Wordpress as a whole. If WP is looking to drop support for mysql_* they
 are directly slowing down development of WP in a big way.
 If that's allowed, this whole ticket and discussion becomes pointless.

 So while I agree that my earlier comment is short and perhaps too strict.
 A clear stance has to be taken towards (against?) such plugins.
