 I've made a couple minor changes to 6481.6.diff, very nice iteration by
 the way. This new patch decouples the function completely. As well, I
 changed the function name, because adding ''work'' seems overly verbose
 and redundant when using ''verify''. I also added additional information
 in the docblock and wrapped the function in a `function_exists` call like
 the ones around it.
