 In Dashboard / Users / Your Profile, the first item is a checkbox:
 ''[_] Disable the visual editor when writing''

 I wonder if we'd accept a patch that added a second checkbox:
 ''[_] Disable the grid media display in the Media Library''

 It's quite parallel to the editor UI, with two square tabs, the first of
 which is default (Visual Edit, Media Grid), and which due to very heavy js
 could conceivably cause errors or slowdowns in the browser. The only way
 to switch on first use, if crashy, is to use the profile checkbox.
