 I agree with @helen in comment:81 that the pinned meta boxes concept is a
 little weird at first. However, once you realize that it's meant to keep
 the side boxes in view regardless of how long your page is, the benefit is
 far more obvious.

 [attachment:40_pinned.png] above.
