 Hi pigsonthewing, thanks for the suggestion, however this definitely seems
 like plugin material. Perhaps adding some meta fields to the user profile
 field.

 In searching the [http://wordpress.org/plugins/ Plugin repository], it
 seems like there's only one plugin in there that has anything to do with
 ORCiD, and in that case it seems like it's setup to display information
 from orcid.org database. So it seems like you've found a under-served
 niche.
