Comment:

 I am a serious news junkie. Some of my favorite sites do not use
 WordPress, I can't remember the last time I have seen a progressive JPEG
 used.

 I'm fine with adding filters in place (if they don't already exist) to
 make it easy for a plugin to flip the interlace bit. But I don't see
 enough evidence here to change the default.
