 those snippets also lovingly reside in `get_the_content()` which is what
 we copied to make that func. We knew it was duping code, so left an
 `@internal` block that says we need to abstract more of it - this code
 happened at like 3am, pretty sure Jaquith was calling me names as it
 happened. Will peruse again right now
