 More specifically: "they"/"them" is used for gender-indeterminate
 subjects/objects (not neuter) whereas "it" is usually used for non-
 gendered subjects/objects. See also

 Most style guides seem to be ambivalent on the issue, preferring to
 rewrite the sentence to avoid it. That said, given precedent in core, +1.
