Comment:

 Closing this ticket off for now, we have had 3 years without any activity
 and the MPTT GSOC projects didn't lead to anything that was really
 suitable for core.

 We probably need to review this again at some point but we should probably
 start with a clean slate and a fresh set of research into the most
 practical solutions.
