Comment:

 Refreshed @azaozz's -4.patch in [attachment:7394.diff]. Applies cleanly
 against trunk, added some spacing here and there, drops usage of
 _ref_array.

 Also added some basic unit tests in [attachment:7394.tests.diff] run with
 `--group 7394`.
