 I'm not saying ditch shortcodes -- they certainly have their uses such as
 advanced parameters, but if I want to embed an audio file for example, I
 should be able to just paste it's `.mp3` URL.

 `wp_embed_register_handler()` also makes the core `[embed]` shortcode be
 able to handle stuff passed to it, if someone should choose to use that
 ("I want to embed something, so I'm using the embed shortcode!").
