 If I'm counting correctly: THA currently has 26 template hooks. (And not
 all are needed, IMO.)

 That's why I would like consensus on the approach before proceeding:
 because whether 26 new function definitions in core is a good or bad
 thing, implementing this concept inconsistently would be an undoubtedly
 ''worse'' thing.

 Personally, I don't think it is at all unreasonable.
