 From a non-graphic-designer perspective the choice here is clear: out with
 the old, in with the new. An icon font has many advantages and is the way
 to go.

 Plugins with top level menus will adapt, @markjaquith put it really well:

 > It's not the end of the world if some third party icons don't mesh at
 first. To be honest, a lot of them already don't mesh.
