 Where this is going is GREAT!

 I love the flat "less is more" icon and admin approach. // and putting the
 old icons into a plugin for people who still want them.  Plugin and theme
 authors will just have to follow suit and modify their icons, just like
 how they have to update code. I dont see that as a huge issue.

 I do agree that smaller icons are better, and agree with @johnonolan that
 I'd like to see a gear as "settings"

 '''Implementation:''' I like @joen's idea of it being an iconofont, which
 will bring us more toward a skin-able admin. '''Pluses:''' The ability to
 modify icon color easily- ESPECIALLY for High-Contrast themes. The ability
 to modify icon scale: to easily make a theme for people with eyesight
 issues.

 I think it would be great to test the iconofont approach out in a variety
 of circumstances/devices and see how it does, and what drawbacks there
 might be. I'd love to help @joen or whoever with this
