Comment (by lessbloat):
'''Overall feedback'''
- While I wasn't sold when I first saw these, having used them daily over
the past week, they've really grown on me.
- This is less about being trendy, and more about decluttering and
increasing clarity within the admin UI.
- As @melchoyce showed us, when paired with a de-gradientification, de-
shadowing & overhaul flattening of the admin, we have the opportunity to
dramatically reduce visual noise within the admin (but I'd use a separate
ticket for that). If you don't believe me, compare the two (there's so
much less for your mind to process with the simplified menu on the left):

- With that said, I do almost feel like the two need to be done in unison.
The flat icons do stick out on their own (in the existing gradient filled
admin).
- This change should be uniform. Every icon in the admin will need to be
brought in line IMO.
- Using a preprocessor seems out of the scope of this particular
discussion (doesn't mean it can't be discussed in another ticket thought
;-))
- Regarding thoughts that doing this would limit the range of available
icons, I say: Balderdash! ;-) Don't underestimate the unlimited array of
possibilities available for combining simple shapes. Of all the reasons
not to proceed with these icons, this should not be one of them.
- @jjj Regarding sensitivities for existing plugin authors. I hear ya.
I've not heard any (great) solutions for that so far.
'''Icon specific feedback'''
- They're all still slightly too large for my liking.
- I think making the corners on the comment icon less round would go a
long way towards making these less bubbly overall, and maybe even go with
a flat line under the users icon.
- +1 for making all core icons into a icon font (for all of the reasons
@joen mentioned). As for plugin icons, I'd imagine they'd have to remain
as images, unless we open sourced a WP specific vector icon font generator
of some kind. ;-)
