 I like that sentence and wanted to note it :)

 I have a few non-graphic-designer observations, now that I've actually
 looked at more than one set and have been able to separate my thinking
 from the rest of the admin styling:

 * I really like the change away from a generic layout icon for Appearance.
 I do wonder if the paintbrush is not quite right for some of the
 management screens, like Widgets and Menus, but I like it just in the
 context of Appearance.
 * It's a little odd to me that the plugin icon is horizontal as opposed to
 angled, something I see melchoyce altered in her experimentation.
 * I like that melchoyce did a little remixing on empireoflight's original
 set in her take, because they are good and definitely stood the test of
 time! I think the Users, Settings, and Media icons are particularly nice,
 especially that the Media one represents more than "just" photos. Whether
 or not we have good support for anything more than photos/images right now
 is suspect, of course, but you can at least upload other types of media :)
 I also like the Comments one on its own, but it may be less of a fit in
 some ways given the appearance of other comment bubbles around the admin
 (list tables, which have the number inside).

 I'm also really glad to see what icons beyond the admin menu could look
 like, like post formats. It helps snap me out of thinking about just the
 admin menu and into our overall UI language and helpful visual cues for
 users instead. empireoflight - your eye and feedback about melchoyce's
 format icons would be really valuable, I think, because I think those will
 be really useful for the post formats UI we are working on. Design by
 committee is not desirable by any means, but I think sharing some of the
 vision and work will help us keep moving and not put all the pressure on
 one body.
