 When one uploads an image to the image gallery, there is already a
 [http://codex.wordpress.org/Inserting_Images_into_Posts_and_Pages#Image_Link
 "custom URL"] option "Allows you to set a custom link URL for your
 inserted image to link to when clicked".

 This option however , even when set upon upload, is not available when
 using said image in a gallery shortcode. IMHO it should be . It will allow
 a much desired flexibility to the gallery shortcode (just imagine a "posts
 gallery" ).
 But like I mentioned before , it might not be the right place to mention
 it , and it might require a new enhancement ticket.
