 Switching to a flat icon without also switching to a vector icon seems
 without much benefit... Basically, echoing what JJJ said above. Though, it
 is easier to find/create flat icons... so maybe we could get more plugins
 to actually provide custom icons for both the menu and the admin screen
 icon?

 Flat UI is popular right now. But I don't think that we need to
 incorporate it just because it is the current design aesthetic. On the
 other hand, I really think we could do some good in letting the sea of
 meta boxes and nav menus recede visually. Flat gets us there, but that
 shouldn't be the goal.
