 Just wanted to add that such a plugin exists: http://wordpress.org/plugins
 /avatar-privacy/ It's not as polished as I would like it to be, but it
 addresses the privacy issues raised in this ticket. I agree that it is not
 ideal that site owners have to actively look for such a solution to
 benefit from it.
