 If you're on Windows, I'd recommend installing Tortoise SVN. Makes your
 life a lot easier :)

 Then all you need to do is make new folder at the root of your local *AMP
 install, right-click it and select "SVN Checkout". Then paste the URL to
 trunk: http://develop.svn.wordpress.org/trunk in the source field and
 click OK. That's all. Then `svn up`, `svn diff`, `svn revert`, and pretty
 much all SVN commands are available on the right-click menu, and you'll be
 able to run WordPress from the /src directory.

 Applying patches is quite easier too: download the patch, right-click on
 that folder and select "Apply Patch".

 Planning to put the first run in core tomorrow or the day after, still
 tweaking DFW.
