 Updated the patch just a bit. wp_dropdown_pages() now tosses out the
 filtered post_status and reverts to 'publish' on the Reading Settings
 page, preventing admins from doing something unwise there.

 I have not yet incorporated mbijon's suggestions for password-protected
 pages. That'll be my next step. If anyone has time to try out the current
 patch with draft and private pages, I'd appreciate feedback on the general
 direction of things.
