Comment:

 You should report this upstream, since it's an issue with
 Mediaelements.js.

 Also, it seems like it's not possible to change the volume via JavaScript
 on iOS, see
 https://github.com/johndyer/mediaelement/issues/767#issuecomment-13601184.
