 The only drawback I can think of for serializing all the meta into one
 field is size concerns. For formats, it shouldn't be a problem, but if
 it's opened up later as an API, what if some meta are very large?
 Potentially, the values would be saved into individual keys, but when
 combined they maybe too big to store... no? It's an edge case, but who
 knows.
