Comment:

 +1 for that. My opinion on this ticket in general (will jump in depending
 on how acceptance makes progress): Image management is already (sorry to
 say that) kind of a mess from plugin perspective. There's no definitive
 "Do it this or that way" and every author is cooking his own soup. Getting
 a new UI is nice, but having a standardized, strong, reliable (and easy to
 use) API has my upvote.
