 Works perfect in IE8! Thank you very much for your valuable contribution.

 If manually forced into compatibility view, the menu breaks and looks like
 with IE7 (left-aligned vertical list of top items).

 Any chance that you also look into IE7 css? As an extra a compatible IE7
 css could be a fallback for IE8/IE9 in compatibility view.
