 Went through and updated/retested 16379.8.patch.  Looks good.  Definitely
 an improvement on the current setting.  Here's a quick comparison of the
 improvement (from a new users perspective):

 '''Old way:'''

 1) Select "A static page" radio button[[BR]]
 2) Click on the "Front page" drop down[[BR]]
 3) Realize you haven't created any pages yet[[BR]]
 4) Go to pages[[BR]]
 5) Create a new "Home" page[[BR]]
 6) Create a new "Blog" or "News" page[[BR]]
 7) Go back to settings -> Reading[[BR]]
 8) Select "A static page" radio button[[BR]]
 9) Select "Home" from the "Front page" drop down[[BR]]
 10) Select "Blog" from the "Posts page" drop down[[BR]]
 11) Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page

 1) Click the single "Enable a static front page" checkbox[[BR]]
 2) Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page

 Step one defaults to creating a new "Home" and "Blog" page for them
 (though they can change either name to whatever they'd like).
