 We're approaching convergence:

 [attachment:22356.7.diff] is almost identical to
 [attachment:22356.6.diff], except for two things:

 * WP_Image_Editor_Base
 * supports_mime_type() is now optional; implementations can perform such a
 check in their test() methods
