 Another (big?) advantage of always doing full refresh of the preview is
 that the code needed would be a lot simpler and more robust/compatible.
 For example currently the customizer won't work in FF with the NoScript
 addon if more strict rules are set for it.

 But as I said it's too late to look into this now, perhaps in 3.5.
