 I've done a plugin [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/local-storage-
 back-up/] as part of last year's GSOC to backup user drafts and saved
 posts in localStorage. It's a start, though not complete, but I'm willing
 to help extend & integrate it if considered useful.
