 You are correct that the null value isn't possible. I must have misread
 the docs.

 I was about to submit a patch for the inval issue which I just noticed,
 but it looks like it was already caught.

 Regarding the function_exists check for memory_get_usage, this was removed
 because it doesn't do anything. I disabled memory_get_usage on my local
 system, and it caused no problems with the code supplied by the patch.
